Dr. Nirmala Prabhu Ph.D, D. Lit

Mrs. Prabhu is a highly respected stateswoman, speaker, writer, counselor and professor in India. She is a much sought after thinker and speaker who was elevated to be President of Ward 18 of Bharathiya Janatha Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha in Sanjaynagar, Bengaluru.  She has dedicated herself to explaining and extolling Kannada poetic and mystic literature such as Santha Sahithya, Sharana Sahithya and Dasa Sahithya in easy to understand and eloquent words. Dr. Prabhu’s greatest mission and passion is to give back to society via literary and social endeavors.

Dr. Prabhu’s Work

Currently, Nirmala is President for Shivarama Karanth Vedike and in charge of literary and cultural activities for the organization. She has founded and led Manthana – a social organization for culture and literature in Sanjaynagar. She was also an originator of grass roots Satsang gatherings Akkana Balaga and Anubhava Mantapa where communities gather to learn, understand and implement the values originated in Kannada literature. She has been an office bearer at Kannada Lekhakiyara Sangha, Vichara Vedike, and Shabda.

A highly sought after speaker, Dr. Prabhu has been an invited speaker at Basava Samithi, Chinthana, Margadarshana, Adi Kabir Ashram, Vidyaranyapura Hiriya Nagarika Vedike, Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalya, Sharana Samaja, Kannada Yuva Jana Sangha, Rashtra Kavi Kuvempu Vichara Vedike and many other forums.

Nirmala has written six books in Kannada featuring the leading lights in Kannada Bhakthi (Devotional) Sahithya. These books have been claimed by libraries across India. Her books “Kannadada Navarathnagalu”, “Bharathada Mahan Chethanagalu” and “Dasa Diggajaru” were recommended as college level text books. Nirmala’s poetic works in her “He Deva” and “Hakkiya Haadu” books received literary laurels and recognition from the Kannada Sahithya Sammelan.

Dr. Prabhu is a respected and sought after counselor to students and her vast network of friends. She has advised, intervened, and rescued both younger and older individuals from multiple maladies and situations, including interventions to prevent police arrests and remanding to mental institutions.

Nirmala’s Life

Dr. Prabhu was born and brought up in Mysore by her parents who were themselves both teachers. She married Dr. Prabhu Aradhya (professor and scientist in Aerospace Engg. and Meteorology at Indian Institute of Science) in 1968 and came to Bengaluru. They both travelled internationally to Australia, USA and Singapore. On return, Mrs. Prabhu continued her literary pursuits and achieved her M.A, M. Phil, Ph.D from Bangalore University. She was Professor of Hindi at Mount Carmel, Jyothi Nivas and Head of Department at Sri Renukacharya Women’s college. Over her academic career she has guided nearly 20 students towards their M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees. Dr. Prabhu received her D. Lit in Hindi from Chennai University after her retirement from academia.
